Understanding Self-Reliant and Self-Sufficient

Let's talk about what Self-Reliant and Self-Sufficient.

Self-reliance refers to control over decision making, whereas self-sufficiency addresses the fulfillment of an individual's or group's physical needs and is thus related to resource use.

Being Self-Reliant is the idea that one can rely on his or her own judgment, choices, and be free from these societal influences. Basically, you need to do you and educate yourself on the subject. I always believe that on our Homestead we are self-reliant, but we don't follow the norm. I do what other homesteads do but I don't think I have to do it the same way they do it. I use my own judgement and choose my own path. I do not ever say I have to do it that way because they say it is best for me.

Self-Sufficient is the idea that we can provide for our own needs and maintain ourselves without aid of others. Besides living off the grid, isolation and hard work no one can be completely self -sufficient. I do believe that someone could be self-sufficient to a point that they are not dependent on others. Being dependent on others in my vision is that I can feed my family with limited shopping, I can provide shelter and utilities for my family at a limited cost and that we could survive at least 1 year with limited contact with the world outside my Homestead.

My future goal is to become more self-sufficient every year. I am not a conspiracy nut; I don't think the zombie apocalypse is coming and nor do I think the end of the earth is coming. I do believe that there are supply chain shortages, our country's economy is in trouble and there are so many variables in the future that I cannot control. Therefore, I believe we need to be self-reliant and self-sufficient.

Please join our journey and follow us as we make realistic changes in our life to accomplish this goal. We don't want you to think we know what we are doing and do not expect you to follow our path. We are just a resource while you find your path.
